Readers' advisory (RA) is a service provided by your library which involves suggesting fiction and nonfiction titles to a reader. RA includes helping with requests for read-a-likes. Read alike or read alikes.

  • Read-a-Likes -- If you like one of the authors listed, follow the link to find other authors with similar subjects or styles. You may even discover a great writer that's new to you!
  • Best Westerns Booklist -- provided by the Oshkosh Public Library (Wisconsin), includes SPUR award winners. The Spur Award is an annual literary prize awarded by  Western Writers of America.
  • Western Fiction Review -- written by a reader and collector of western fiction, this blog reviews western stories and includes author interviews.



  • Based on the Book is a compilation of over 1,250 books, novels, short stories, and plays that have been made into films.



This is a fiction database that provides subject heading access, reviews, annotations, and much more for over 135,000 fiction titles. It also includes other content of interest to fiction readers, such as Author Read-alikes, What We're Reading, Book Discussion Guides, BookTalks, and Annotated Book Lists. For school media specialists and teachers there are Picture Book Extenders and articles on Teaching with Fiction.
