A Note from the CEO

Hello everyone!  For those of you who have been dying to know, Berthoud’s favorite book, chosen bracket-style over the course of the summer, is Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird.  To check out the full list of contenders, you can visit PBS’s The Great American Read website,https://www.pbs.org/the-great-american-read/home/ or check out the display here at the library. We’ve got a couple of new offerings that we’d like to highlight for you.  If you’re an adult who thinks it’s not fair that the kids always get to see the zoo animals, the Denver Zoo is coming just for you on Monday, September 17.  You will need a ticket to attend (free, pick one up at the front desk) and it is limited to 25 adults. (Yes, you must be 18 and older.  We will be checking IDs.)

Two new classes will also help you better engage with the world around you.  At Research 101 we’ll go through all the different online research tools available to you with your library card to help you get the facts.  From finding a new book to tracing your family’s genealogy, and digging through scientific journals or identifying business market trends, we’ve got a tool for you.  Also join us for How to Spot Fake News, an evening where we’ll help you identify sources that can be trusted and when not to pass on stories.

For the kids, we’re starting a Thursday afternoon time to chill at the library and listen to a book.  Staff members, some participants, and even special guests will take turns reading aloud to help you unwind.  We’ll be kicking things off with Beverly Cleary’s The Mouse and the Motorcycle.

Happy Autumn!

Amie P.

A Note from the CEO

If you and your family haven’t been joining us for our Tuesday Teen Events and Wednesday Family Events, don’t worry, there’s still time.  July’s lineup includes visits from the Denver Zoo, Wildfire Arts Center, and more. Take a look at the full schedule below or online.

Adults, don’t forget that we’re in the middle of deciding Berthoud’s favorite book.  Check the bracket on the wall in our community room—your vote counts! And remember that if you read any book that is on the Great American Read list, it counts for two punches on your summer reading punch card.

Happy summer and happy reading to you all.

Amie P. – Library CEO

The Library will be closed Wednesday, July 4th for Independence Day.

A Note from the CEO

Happy summer everyone!

If you missed our Summer Reading Kickoff Party, don’t worry, there’s still plenty of time to start reading and earn prizes or drawing entries all summer long.  We have opportunities for all ages, birth through adult, so if you’re breathing, you’re eligible—come see us and sign up!

We have a wonderful lineup of events for all ages this summer, so we hope to see you at the Library soon.  Actor and magician Mark Strivings will kick off our adult events with his one-man show, The Legend of Soapy Smith.  Please join us this coming Tuesday, June 5, at 5:30 to hear all about the exploits of this incredible Denver-based con artist.  Adults also have the chance to attend yoga classes, art classes, writers’ group, and more game nights hosted by various local businesses.

The teen and kid calendars are equally full.  Our teens have an event every Tuesday at 2:00, and our kids have one every Wednesday at 2:00.  Look for the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, an Un-Birthday Party, the Denver Zoo, Film-Making, and other great events to attend.  It’s a party every week! And don’t forget that Storytime continues through the summer, meeting every Tuesday and Wednesday morning at 10:30.

Check out our full lineup in this newsletter, on the library’s website, or in the Berthoud App.  And keep reading—the prizes continue all summer.

Stay cool,

Amie P.
