I’m new to the library, where do I begin?

How do I get a library card? What do I need to get one?

You can get a library card at the front desk. All you need is a valid Colorado I.D with your current address. If you don’t have your current address on your I.D, or don’t have a Colorado I.D, you will need proof of address. For proof of address bring any official piece of mail (bills, insurances, etc). As long as you live in Colorado, you can have a library card with us.

How old do you have to be to get a library card?

You can be any age. If you are under 18 you will need a parent or a guardian with you.

Where is the library?

The library is located on 236 Welch Avenue, Berthoud Colorado. 

What are your hours?

The building is open Monday through Friday from 10am to 6pm. On Saturdays the building is open from 10am to Noon, closed for an hour from 12pm to 1pm, and then open from 1pm to 4pm. Curbside pick up runs Monday through Saturday from 10am to 5pm.

Are you accepting book/movie donations?

At this time we are accepting book and movie donations. We do not accept encyclopedias, self-help, or textbooks.

Can I donate money to the library?

The Library is unable to accept monetary donations, however the Friends of the Library can. The Friends of the Berthoud Library is a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to supporting the people and businesses of Berthoud, while also promoting a life-long love of learning.

Can I volunteer at the library?

At this time we are unable to accept volunteers. 

I want an item you don’t have in the library:

I see this book is available from another library, how do I place a hold on it?

You can put a book on hold from another library through our catalog or by asking a staff member. If the book isn’t part of our consortium, you can place an interlibrary loan(ILL). From our website you can access our catalog on the menu. Once you are in the catalog you will click the “Sign In” button that is located on the top right corner. From there you will enter your username and password. Your username is your library card number, and your password is your last name in lower case. Once you are logged in, search the book you are trying to find in the menu bar. Once you have found the book you are looking for, there will be a button that says “Place Hold”. From there you will click the button that says “Submit Hold Request” located on the bottom right corner of the pop up box. Ta-da! Your item has now been requested.

What is an interlibrary loan? How do I place one?

If you are searching for a book that you are unable to find in our catalog, don’t give up hope yet! An interlibrary loan is a service where you can request an item (book, audiobook, movie) from another library outside of our consortium. To place an ILL request, scroll down on the homepage of our website. You will find four boxes below “See What We Have to Offer”, the third box is labeled Interlibrary Loans. Once you have clicked the Interlibrary Loans box, you will fill out the request form. Make sure to enter your correct library card number and phone number so we can notify you on whether or not the request was able to be filled.

How long will it take to receive my hold?

It usually takes between 1-3 weeks to receive your hold. Times can vary depending on how many other people have the same item on hold, and how new the item is. 

Checking in and out items:

How many books can I check out? 

You can check out an unlimited amount of books. 

How many movies can I check out?

You can check out up to 15 DVDs.

Can I renew the State Parks Backpack? 

State Park Backpacks can only be checked for one week at a time. Holds cannot be placed. 

Can I check out more than one curiosity kit/board game? Can anyone check them out? Can they be renewed?

You can only check out one curiosity kit or board game at a time, and only adults can check them out. Board games and curiosity kits are unable to be renewed.

How long can you check out an item? How many times can I renew an item?

You can check out an item for 3 weeks. Books can be renewed up to 2 times and movies can be renewed once, as long as no one else has it on hold.

Where do I return items? 

You can return items in the building, located on the wall behind the checkout desk next to the interior window. Or you can return your items at the east side of the building. If you are returning a curiosity kit, board game, or State Park backpack, it must be returned in the building at the front desk.

Do you charge overdue fines?

We do not charge overdue fines.

What happens if I lose or damage an item?

If an item is lost or damaged you will need to pay the full amount of the item with either cash or check. 

Can I get a list of items I have checked out?

You sure can. When you come in just ask us to print it out. 

What do I do if I’m not receiving any emails from the library?

Make sure to check your spam. If you still aren’t receiving them, give us a call or come in. 

Technology:

Do you offer technology coaching? What kind of technology coaching do you offer?

Our Technology and Marketing Specialist offers technology coaching Tuesdays and Fridays. They are able to assist you with learning how to use a new app on your phone or computer, sending documents, printing, and more. 

Do you have a copier? What sizes of paper do you have?

We do have a copier that is able to print 8 ½” x 11”(letter), 8 ½” x 14”(legal), and 11” x 17” (tabloid). 

How much does it cost to print?

The first 10 pages of black and white and first 5 pages of color are free. After that black and white pages are 20 cents and color is 50 cents. 

Can I print from my phone?

You can print from your phone. To do so download the Canon Print Business App and make sure you are connected to our Wi-fi. Once you are in the app, you can search for our printer in the left top corner. 

Can I print from my USB drive?

You can plug your USB drive into the top right side of the printer. On the printer screen you will select “Access stored files”, then you will click “Memory Media”. The name of your USB will then be on the screen and you can select the files you want to print. 

Services:

Do you have a notary? How much does it cost?

We do have a notary, they are available by appointment only on Tuesdays from Noon to 5:30pm and Wednesdays from 10am to 2pm. It costs $5 dollars per stamp and we are only able to accept cash or checks.

Can I scan a document and send it via email? How much does that cost?

Yes you can scan any document and send it via email, there is no cost to do this.

Can I fax something? How much does it cost?

We do faxes on the staff printer, and we do not charge for it. Just bring what needs to be faxed to the front desk and they will be able to help you.  

Events and Classes:

Do you offer story time?  

Yes. Story time is for families on Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:30 a.m.  Check our calendar for the weekly theme. 

How can I see what events and classes are coming up?

You can look at our newsletter, Facebook events, and/or click the “Events” tab on our website. 

Do you offer events and classes for all ages?

Some of our events and classes are all ages, adults only, teens only, or kids only. The event will have it specified in the description.
