Summer Learning 2021

Welcome To Our Summer Learning Program 2021!

For Kids:

This year our theme is Tales and Tails! We will offer weekly events for participants at 2pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Check out details on the Berthoud Community Library Facebook Page. We are looking forward to having doggone good performers and purr-fectly fun events!

Not Just Reading but Learning

In 2020 we expanded our summer program. We wanted to encourage self-directed learning by offering a different approach to the traditional summer program. Self-directed learning teaches the skill of knowing HOW to learn. Most formal school learning is teaching WHAT to learn. With the BCLD summer Learning Initiative, we want to promote independence and freedom for participants to learn about topics that INTEREST THEM. We are continuing this in 2021!

How Does It Work?

  1. Brainstorm with your child (at least) four topics they are interested in.
  2. Talk about how they will present what they’ve learned.
  3. Select books from the library, watch videos, listen to podcasts, read webpages, record observations, take pictures and notes, and talk to experts on the chosen topics.
  4. Share your projects / presentations with BCLD.

Reading is still a choice

We know that new things can feel scary and we like to read too! That’s why tracking your summer reading to collect four prizes is an option as well.

Emerging Readers (birth – kindergarten)

Grownups, keep track of the books you read to your little ones and they can win up to four prizes (not to mention the best thing of all – time with YOU!).

Signing up is simple! You can come in to the library to register, or fill out our online registration form below.

Kids will have prizes at four levels. Each level is a choice of treasure box goodies, or entering a raffle.

Tween & Teen prizes are similar! At each level they can put their name into a drawing for a gift card.

For Adults:

As in years past, we also have a summer reading incentive just for adults! Prizes too!

Much like previous years, we will have a punch card system. After 4 punches (4 books) your name will be entered into a prize drawing for a gift card.

Stop in and pick up your punch card!

If you need something to help you remember which books you have read, download this reading log!
